ARCHST 4940 Internships

ARCHST 4940 - Internship provides a "real world" view of what goes on in the profession of interior design or architecture. An intern has direct contact with practitioners and may also have opportunities for contact with related specialists. Many interns meet "real" clients, observe interaction between designer and client, and observe/ participate in the full design process.

The firm sponsoring an intern also benefits from the relationship. Prior to enrolling in ARCHST 4940 - Internship each student acquires interior design skills in course work through the junior year. Individual students often have particular strengths in some of the skills acquired, such as space planning, drafting, CADD, selection of materials, preparation of sample boards, etc. Courses completed and descriptions are included later in this brochure. Interns can also be helpful with many routine tasks such as typing, filing and keeping resource areas usable.

An internship offers both the intern and the firm a "sneak preview"/ extended interview. The sponsor/intern relationship can initiate networking and reference opportunities and in some cases may lead to full-time employment with the sponsor's firm.
