Graduates of the MA and MS Degree Programs

MA graduates complete a design or creative project along with supporting graduate level coursework. Their work may solve a real-world design problem and may emphasize, for example, computer-aided design and animation, design communication, facility design and management, or historic preservation. See post-graduate placements in Spotlight on Alumni. Career opportunities are found in:

  • design firms
  • computer graphic enterprises
  • retail establishments
  • corporate institutions and health care facilities
  • residential settings
  • Teaching and research positions in higher education
  • government positions in offices of sustainability, planning, and historic preservation
  • community advocacy

They collaborate with related design professionals providing solutions to social and environmental problems.

Graduates of the MS and PhD Degree Programs

MS and PhD graduates have completed research culminating in a thesis or dissertation with appropriate graduate level coursework. Curricular emphasis is in Environment and Behavior Studies and includes environmental gerontology, facility design and management, social and cultural bases of design, rural environments, and environmental design education. These graduates pursue academic and professional careers integrating environmental design theory with their research skills. Some MS and many PhD graduates obtain positions in teaching, research, and administration at colleges or universities.

Career opportunities for master's and PhD graduates include leadership positions in design and consulting practices in industry, government and education; and academic and administrative positions in higher education and research. See Spotlight on Alumni.
