The Architectural Studies Advisory Board supports and facilitates the Department of Architectural Studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia in fulfilling its mission. Emphasis of the Board is on the continuous improvement of the department’s design programs and aligning them with current and emerging priorities in the design profession. The board provides advice to the department faculty and leadership regarding academic program development and student career outcomes. Advisory board members are experienced architects or interior designer affiliated with leading design firms in the nation or government agencies. Each member is appointed for a three-year term and may serve up to two 3-year terms.

Scott has worked with numerous clients across a variety of industries including: education, collegiate, mixed-use, hospitality, retail, office, municipal and faith-based. He has been instrument on several notable projects with Hollis + Miller, which have been recognized by education and design industry leading organizational awards, including: Joplin Soaring Heights and Joplin East Middle School (Association for Learning Environments) and Liberty North High School Addition (AIA Kansas).
True to his generous nature, Scott believes in giving back. He is a 2014 graduate of Leadership Lee’s Summit. He has served as a guest lecturer and adjunct design professor at The University of Kansas and at other area schools in his dedication to mentor others and elevate design thinking. His involvement in the design industry and in the education industry includes serving as a member of the Olathe School District’s 21st Century Academies District Advisory Group, mentoring architectural design students at local universities as well as students at local area high schools in the Greater Kansas City Area.

As the UM System Architect, Chuck provides professional services to the four campuses of the University of Missouri System; maintains the University architectural design standards, and the design and construction policy and procedures; reviews and approves architectural plans and specifications; and performs code consulting. Prior to his current position, Chuck was the Campus Architect at Missouri University of Science and Technology for six years, responsible for designing and overseeing construction of campus renovations. Chuck has also worked in the private sector managing his own architecture practice and construction company. He has a diverse design and construction background ranging from subdivision-land development planning, residential, corporate, retail, restaurants, Fire dept. and EMS facilities, medical, industrial, factory, and religious facilities.

Educated with a Master of Architecture 1995, California State Polytechnic University and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design 1992, University of Missouri Columbia-Cum Laude, Bob is licensed in Missouri, Illinois, and Colorado. His design philosophy advocates the highest possible aspirations for a project that work well at all levels- functional, aesthetic, and economic. With a variety of building types including Higher Education, K-12 Education, Parks and Recreation, Corporate, Cultural/ Civic, Residential, and Mixed-Use experience, he has worked as a Designer, Project Architect, and Project Manager. Notable award winning projects include Maryville University’s Student Center, the Walter Coulter Science Center at Westminster College, Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park, Express Scripts Corporate Headquarters, The Jewel Box restoration in Forest Park, and an off the grid Ranch in Colorado. Bob is currently practicing at KWK Architects as a project design manager for Higher Education Projects. His previous office experiences include The Sutton Studio, Christner, and DHA in St. Louis along with several smaller design firms in Missouri and California, in addition to serving as the architectural acoustics instructor at Washington University in St. Louis.

Barbara Buffaloe is the City of Columbia’s first Sustainability Manager. There she is responsible for integrating short and long term sustainable comprehensive action plans, resource conservation, and related sustainability programs and operations to advance a more sustainable, vital and well-planned future for Columbia, Missouri. As a result of her successful administration of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant from the Department of Energy (DOE), the City of Columbia realizes over $100K in annual energy savings. She has presented on these realized savings and additional sustainability programs and projects at national conferences, such as the DOE-sponsored Better Buildings Summit, the Institute for Sustainable Communities’ Leadership Academy, and multiple local and regional meetings. Buffaloe also serves as leadership for the Heartland Local Government Sustainability Network, a network of sustainability managers and directors from seven states whose charge it is to create additional momentum for promoting sustainability throughout the Heartland. She joined the City from the University of Missouri where she was an instructor in the Department of Architectural Studies and a Housing and Environmental Design Specialist with MU Extension.

BS Environmental Design 1997 University of Missouri. Joe is the director for Lawrence Group Color’s Retail Studio and a stockholder with the company. Joe joined the Lawrence Group in 1997 and has successfully managed over 3,500 projects in more than 30 different states for major brands such as Edward Jones, National Vision, Baskin Robbins, and AMC Theatres. Joe’s broad experience in retail and restaurant projects allows him to balance the programmatic planning, legal code requirements, local jurisdiction details and the retail or restaurant brand with each unique location. Joe has recently completed over 140 AMC Theatre concession stand locations nationwide and has in depth knowledge of the kitchen equipment needs and demands on a project. Mandy graduated with a Bachelor of Interior Design in 2005 from Texas State and obtained a Master of Architecture in 2013 from the University of Kansas. She added a Master of Art in Architecture degree in 2014 while studying at the University of Stuttgart in Southern Germany. Inspired by Mies’ quote “Build, don’t talk”, Moore has pursued experiences ranging from designing and constructing a 3,000-square foot research facility with her own hands to traveling half way across the globe to study robotics and create research pavilions. While these experiences are not typical of her every day, they provided her with an insatiable desire to research and continually learn through her work. She is a LEED accredited professional, an Associate AIA member and is on the Kansas City Rescue Mission Board.
