Brian R. Sinclair

Changing the world is an ambitious goal, but not one that Dr. Brian Sinclair has been afraid to tackle. Dr. Brian R. Sinclair PhD FRAIC AIA (Intl) is an award-winning Professor of Architecture + Environmental Design, and former Dean, in Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS) at the University of Calgary, Canada. For his PhD research Brian headed to the other side of the globe, living and working in rural areas and city slums in Mongolia. His curiosity for learning, passion for researching, talent in designing and compassion for humanity translated into the development of a holistic framework for design + planning that has been widely published, referenced and applied. In addition to his research and design pursuits Brian has served in senior administration roles at research-intensive universities in both the United States and Canada. His current pursuits include agile architecture, open building, sustainability and design|planning in a broad range of places around the planet. Dr. Sinclair is a Professor of Architecture + Environmental Design at the University of Calgary, Canada and President of sinclairstudio inc.

Brian explains: “Above all else, the knowledge, commitment and counsel of faculty at Mizzou made my experiences rich, rewarding, meaningful and memorable. In my doctoral work I was supported by a dedicated cadre of talented professors whose complementary skills and expertise provided inspiration, motivation and guidance. From a learning perspective I was pushed to develop new ways of seeing & thinking and to consider my research in innovative & effective ways. The faculty, providing me room to maneuver while concurrently demanding discipline and expecting quality, were remarkable mentors in my fascinating journey of discovery.
