Scholarships

Scholarships are based on both merit and need. College-based scholarships and some department-based scholarships require applicants to complete the MU Annual Scholarship Application and complete the FASFA documents through Financial Aid.

Undergraduate Scholarships

  • Established by Adeline Hoffman, HES Alumna, to recognize outstanding aesthetic work.
  • One or more annual awards shall be made to undergraduate students enrolled in Architectural Studies.
  • No separate application required.
  • Established by Mrs. Rose to honor her parents, who through hard work and foresight sent their three daughters to the University of Missouri in the 1920’s.
  • Awards shall be given each academic year to the student with the best project generated from the interior design studio sequence which includes Design Studio I, II, and III.
  • No separate application is required.
  • Established by John P. and Carol Ann Williams to honor Kate Rogers who had been one of Carol Ann’s favorite professors.
  • Daughter Elizabeth Williams is an alumna of the program.
  • One or more annual awards shall be made to full-time junior or senior level students enrolled in the Department of Architectural Studies in the College of Arts and Science.
  • Selected recipients shall exhibit academic achievement and have a demonstrated financial need.
  • No separate application is required.
  • Initiated by alumna Cynthia Adams Francis honoring her parents Mildred Josephine and James Edward Adams and husband Frank Francis, Jr.
  • One or more annual awards shall be made to undergraduate students enrolled in Architectural Studies.
  • Both merit and need may be considered.
  • No separate application required.
  • Andy Guti and Sherri DeRousse Guti initiated a fund to support research and instruction on sustainable design.
  • Distribution may include student scholarships, student field trip opportunities, gallery exhibitions, etc.
  • Selected by Department Chair
  • No separate application required
  • Initiated to encourage a beginning student in the Architectural Studies undergraduate program.
  • Selected by faculty and based on portfolio review as part of the application for admission to the interior design studio course sequence. Portfolio due during the last week of classes in the fall semester.
  • No separate application required.
  • Dr. Ruth Tofle was an undergraduate alumna of the program and Chaired the Department from 1984 to 2018. She was the 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Alumni Award. Nurturing and inspiring young designers as she experienced at MU, is the motivation for this scholarship.
  • Scholarship to an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in a Department of Architectural Studies program.
  • Selected recipients shall exhibit academic achievement and have a demonstrated financial need.
  • No separate application required.
  • Established by Ruth Tofle in honor of her own 4-H experience and in memory of her brother Lester Stumpe and parents Clarence and Dorothy Stumpe of Franklin County, MO. Ruth Chaired the Department from 1984-2018. See also publication.
  • Scholarship to a current or former 4-H member who will be an undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Arts and Science with preference for students enrolled in the Architectural Studies major.
  • Selection will be based on career goals, 4-H achievement in leadership / citizenship / community service, and financial need.
  • See application procedures at the University of Missouri 4-H Foundation.
  • The Carolyn and Tom Wiley Scholarship honors family members loyal to MU and HES.
  • One or more annual awards shall be made to students in the College of Arts and Science in the following areas: Architectural Studies, Human Development and Family Science (a child life major), and Textile and Apparel Management.
  • The award shall be rotated among the three departments.
  • Selected recipients shall be completing their junior year and the award is intended to be available during the senior year.
  • Based on demonstrated financial need.
  • No consideration given to grade point average, preference given to students who participate in extra-curricular activities.
  • No separate application is required.
  • Tracy Stearns is an alumus and practicing interior designer who said: “My experiences at MU taught me many things, but the most important is how the time, talent and support of others who are willing to share can shape and change your path in life. That happened for me here at MU and that is why it is so important for me to give back.”
  • One or more annual awards shall be made to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in Architectural Studies; selection is based on merit.
  • No separate application required.

Graduate Scholarships

  • Established by Alumna, Marcia Wehrle and Robert Healy and ExxonMobil match.
  • Awarded annually to a full time graduate student(s) in the Architectural Studies Department.
  • The scholarship may be renewed.
  • No separate application required.
  • Announced at the annual presentation of the Marcia Wehrle Healy and Robert N. Healy Interior Design and Architecture Studies Lecture.
  • Professor Emeritus Richard Helmick was an early pioneer in design with digital media. His legacy continues today and our students are the benefactors of his forward thinking and personal investment.
  • Provide one or more annual awards to entering graduate student enrolling in the Design with Digital Media program.
