This structure is inspired by the intricate triangular and geometric formation of crystals. Understanding the site’s former use as greenhouse spaces influenced the structures incorporation of plant elements, creating a beautiful harmony between the roof’s rigid geometry and wall’s organic vegetation.

The design of the Peace Garden is inspired by the form of a gazebo combined with green house elements. This oculus structure encircles a tree, carving out a calming and introspective green space for students.

The Curtis Green Space is a two-way FEMA-safe shelter which includes a stone veneer to match the surrounding East Campus context. Paralleling the grassy lawns around Curtis Hall, the structure utilizes indigenous landscaping within the stone steps to properly blend in with the existing greenery.

Taking inspiration from the form of a wave, this project wanted to explore providing shade through undulating overhangs.

The concept of this installation is the rounded, spiral shaping of a seashell. The Curtis ramp is the perfect area for a covered pavilion. Students walking to and from classes have the opportunity to rest on the comfortable bench seating this shell tunnel has to offer. It also provides shade during the bright hours of the day.

This design is inspired by the weaving ribbon of campus which ties together all students. The spiraling structure creates a unique tunnel for students to walk through or rest onits benches, creating a peaceful and shaded space where students can interact with one another.

The concept of this project draws inspiration from organic forms found in nature, such as leaves, honeybees, and tigers. The design transitions from an exploration of natural elements, moving from Missouri’s state insect to the symbolic tiger, creating a structure with unique and dynamic characteristics. The form is shaped to reflect the fluidity and strength of these natural forms while embodying a modern architectural approach. This results in a structure that is visually striking and closely tied to the natural world, rooted in regional identity and organic flow.

Inspired by a playful bee that followed me past Curtis, this space brings Columbia together using green space. The hexagon forms are a symbol of community, like bees in a hive. The playground, topped with a living garden, encourages pollinators and people to inhabit the same space, bridging nature and humanity. It also brings together multiple generations of the Columbia community. Its location on campus allows it to be used by Mizzou’s students and its proximity to downtown makes it accessible to local families as well.

The pavilion is based in response to the facilities surrounding the site. A potential example of biological mimicry for the students of Stanley Hall, an educational opportunity for the Child Development Center, and a reference to the history of Curtis Hall. The overall feel of the pavilion is that of a forest, with the curved columns and organic openings of the shades creating an effect like sunlight passing through a canopy of trees. Each shade and seating area is modeled after a piece of foliage from a different biome, referencing the evolutionary teachings of Winterton Curtis. The pavilion houses planters which support native species and is constructed using sustainable materials such as “re-wall” and localized wood.
