Design Computing

Design Computing research advances the theoretical understanding of immersive experience and data analytics within the domain of architecture, communication, and related disciplines. We explore innovative 3D visualization, modeling, and simulation techniques to address a variety of applied problems, including architectural visualization, digital fabrication, generative design, and simulations across disciplines. Design Computing research is led by Dr. Jong Bum Kim, Dr. Debora Verniz, and Dr. Jayedi Aman using the Immersive Visualization Lab (iLab) and the Digital Fabrication Lab.

Design Outreach

Design outreach is community-engaged research. We work side by side with stakeholders to focus on improving our buildings and homes. Students gain real-world experience that enables them to meaningfully guide decision-making and prepares them for professional practice. Community members and organizations get valuable insight into project feasibility and strategies for creating healthy homes.

Building Science

Building Science research focuses on understanding the physical behavior of buildings and their systems to optimize performance, sustainability, and occupant comfort. It encompasses studies in energy efficiency, thermal dynamics, acoustics, lighting, and material properties, integrating advanced technologies like simulation tools and smart building systems.
