Undergraduate Program

Make communities better and help people thrive through the buildings and spaces they engage in.

Are you super technical, wanting to build things, and be creative? Are you super creative, wanting to apply your skills in a more technical way, to design spaces for people to live in, work in, and use?

Our interdisciplinary program provides a creative AND technical education with advanced knowledge and skills across both interior design AND architecture; WITHIN the same department. This intra-department curriculum provides a deliberately connected path from discovery of your interests and skills, to a cultivation of those parts into a versatile graduate who’s ready to make a meaningful impact on your future team. Being within the College of Arts & Science gives you access to connected learning opportunities to fill in your creative and technical tool kit.

Interdisciplinary Education

Celebrate your advanced versatility

In an ever-changing world, we can’t accurately predict the future. What we can do though, is provide students with a strong and versatile foundation of knowledge, skills, and experience spanning both interior design AND architecture. You’re going to learn more of both than most any other institution. Which better prepares you for future unknowns and the workplace you’ll soon enter.

Hands-on Learning Experience

Learn by doing

Go beyond books and lectures – sketching and constructing models, and using digital technology for simulations and prototypes. We are a hands-on, project-based program built around studio courses which address specific areas or topics in design, while emphasizing technical skills learned through supporting courses. Working collaboratively with peers and instructors, you’ll design innovative solutions that will be seen and touched, not just discussed.

Increase your marketability

Graduate with confidence. Enter the professional world with the creative AND technical knowledge to make a meaningful impact within the firms, organizations, and institutions you’ll be working for. The versatility of your learning and your ability to help teams and clients navigate the unknown is celebrated and sought out, guiding the design world through future regulations and environmental impacts.

The experiences I’ve had at Mizzou have deepened my understanding of architecture’s role in the community and taught me to think critically about design’s impact on the world.
