Gail Bray
Gail Bray graduated from Mizzou in 2025 and is currently getting her master’s of architecture. Her interest in architecture started as an interest in spatial design and has evolved into a devotion to sustainability. Her undergraduate thesis was an adaptive reuse of an abandoned office skyscraper into sustainable housing. In the program, she has been a teaching assistant to various courses and is currently a freshman studio instructor. Design studios should not offer comfort, they should provoke friction. The student’s confrontation with form, program, and context mirrors the confrontation between the body and the built environment. The role of architectural education is not to resolve these tensions, but to make them visible and transform discomfort into insight. Through drawing and spatial experimentation, students should learn choreograph experiences that challenge normative perceptions of order, beauty, and comfort.
