Meleah Hess
Meleah grew up on the east coast of Florida and went to undergrad at the University of Central Florida for Hospitality Management. After some great experiences in Orlando and working for Disney, she decided to shift careers and moved to Indiana for her master’s in Interior Design at Ball State University. During her time there, she became very interested in design research for educational spaces and focused her research in architectural sensory interventions.
Meleah is a practicing Interior Designer for K-12 environments and a first year PhD student. She is excited to parallel design practice with her research at Mizzou. She strives to design educational spaces with evidence-based solutions that support learning, cognition, and development. Her research experience and interests include sensory processing, spatial cognition among K-12 populations, and how the perception of space and volume changes throughout childhood development. Through the parallel of design practice and academic research, she is excited to expand her understanding of the educational system, theories of learning, and the evolving architectural needs of K-12 populations.
